Do you need a CMS for your website?
A Content Management System is one of those things everyone assumes they want, because it sounds like independence. Whether it's worth paying for comes down to how often you actually plan to touch your own site.
What it gives you
A CMS lets you update your site's text, images, and posts yourself, without needing to ask anyone or touch any code. It's built into the Growth and Premium packages, and it's a £400 add-on on Starter.
The alternative
Every maintenance plan already includes some content-update work: Standard includes 2 hours a month, Pro includes 4. Anything beyond that, or on the Essential plan, is billed at £75 an hour. If you change your site rarely, a few hours a year of someone else doing it properly can easily cost less than the CMS add-on.
When it's worth it
- You update prices, availability, or offers often enough that waiting on someone else slows you down.
- You want to run a blog and post it yourself rather than sending text over for me to publish.
- You've got several people on your team who might need to make changes.
When you can skip it
If your site's content barely changes, a brochure site for a trade business, say, the CMS is a feature you'll rarely open. The included content-update hours on Standard or Pro, or the hourly rate on Essential, will cost you less over a year than owning the tooling to do it yourself.
